Make Your Business Cards Stand Out

A business card reflects your personal brand and is often a potential client’s first contact with your company; to be remembered is to engage with them as well as encourage them to find out more about what it is that you do. The best way to do this is, is with a business card that is professional, clear to understand and reflects your brand image.

Now, good business cards don’t always guarantee a new client, but bad ones can sure drive away potential customers. Increase your chances of being remembered by following these tips for designing memorable business cards.

Keep it Simple
Choose easy-to-read fonts and stay with the traditional size for business cards. Avoid using bright colors if you are in a traditional business such as finance or consulting. A bright background such as white, beige or light gray and dark text such as black, navy or dark grey both looks professional and is easy to read.

However, bright colors, when used correctly, can also make a business card stand out and look distinctive. If you’re in the creative industry such as interior design or a fashion designer, adding a little bit of a color can show your creative side.

Use the Back Side of the Card
If you are doing business with other countries, make sure you use the back side of the card to print the same information in a different language. For example, a person who does business both in the U.S. and Afghanistan may want to have the information printed in English on one side and Kurdish on the other. Take a look at the business card we did for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan below to see what we’re talking about!

Paper Thickness
Consider the thickness of your business card. Thicker cards tend to feel more expensive – making your business seem more professional. Business cards printed on paper thinner than 300gsm look and feel rather thin, which can make them feel tacky and cheap. The best option is to go with 12-14pt thickness for maximum impact and durability.

Do match the coating to your purposes. Go with gloss to make photos look beautiful. Select a dull or matte finish for smooth, non-shiny business card printing that’s easy to write on. Uncoated paper has a more textured feel that can look more formal and match stationery such as letterhead and envelopes. Request samples of our work to see and feel the differences.

Opt for custom finishing options such as embossing, foil stamping or raised lettering that can give your business card that extra flair its missing. They cost less than you might think and add a touch of class. This is a favorite of TriVision’s. If you’re concerned about a black and white card looking dull, try embossing the words. Embossing creates a raised, 3D effect, which adds elegance and style to a business card.
