What do you do if you want to sell products on one of the world’s hottest apps, but the app isn’t capable of web browsing?
You innovate, of course!
Ikea found a way to use Instagram to serve as its latest web catalog. The Swedish furniture store tapped Russian agency Instinct to create a catalog using Instagram; the resulting catalog is both unique and unconventional.
Anyone who visits the Instagram account @ikea_ps_2014 on their smartphone, will see a grid of images set to look like an Ikea catalog. Using the tagging system, users can tap on photos where they are transported to even more content – the catalog includes the prices, more photos, and even video demonstrations of the products.
This campaign proves that we’ve merely prodded the proverbial can of worms. Ikea’s Instagram catalog begs the question what else can our favorite apps can do, and when are we going to see more of this type of digital innovation?
