CreativeMornings DC

A new addition of our favorite things about DC: CreativeMornings.

We were among the 100+ early risers at theNational Portrait Gallery attending Gregg Deal’s inspiring and crucial talk about his indigenous heritage as member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.

Gregg Deal is a visual artist – a graphic designer as well as a painter – and a performance artist. His piece The Last American Indian on Earth was performed around the District, then featured on theHuffington Post and in The Washington Post; it was the centerpiece of his CreativeMornings talk. The artist, while hilarious and engaging, also made room for a deeper conversation about identity, and the relationship between heritage and historical oppression.

Deal showed parts of his striking film that he funded through an Indiegogo campaign. The artist wrote, ”The performances will include a number of things that are simple, mundane, funny, political, over the top, satirical, ironic, and even sad.”

You can view parts of that film below.
